Hypex NCOREx technology
For the boXem A 5519/N4 we have chosen to implement Hypex NCOREx power stages. Hypex was the first company to create class D amplifiers able to rival or even outperform their class A and AB counterparts. NCOREx is the latest jump of a technology born in 2003 with UcD and deeply improved in 2011 with NCORE.
In the boXem A 5519/N4, the amplification stage can deliver up to 4 x 380 W in 8 Ω and 4 x 600 W in 4 and 2 Ω
Top-down cooling concept
In most class D amplifiers, the heat sources are installed at the bottom of the amplifier, relying mainly on conduction to evacuate the heat generated by the power stage. While, pending enough conduction support is provided, this concept is acceptable until a couple hundreds Watt, it becomes limited for higher power values. Unique in this price range, our chassis allows the electronics to be installed top down in order to benefit as much as possible from the natural convection in addition to keeping it's conduction properties.
This allows better sustained performance, better durability (capacitors do not age well when overheated) and higher ambient temperatures (looking at you, closed cabinet owners).
Input and gain buffer with integrated EMI filtering
The boXem A 5519/N4 offers two variants of input and gain buffers.
- the standard stage embedded on the NCx500 board
- the optional boXem stage II, an OPA1612 based buffer stage allowing ultra-low noise, ultra-low THD and IMD, and low DC output.
Both standard and boXem stage II input and gain buffers integrate EMI filtering to prevent disturbances from the modern electronics surrounding our interiors.
Two levels gain setting (boXem stage II buffer only)
A switch on the rear of the amplifier allows you to set two different levels of gain. Depending on the output capability of your source (pre-amplifier, processor or DAC with volume control) the system gain structure can be optimized for two main targets.
The first is to have the lowest noise, the second the smoothest volume setting as possible.
While the noise levels of modern audio gear has become so low that noise optimization for home audio is often purely academic, having a smooth volume control is something we find so enjoyable that it was our main motivation for integrating the gain control switch.
Listen to the music, forget the electronics
Plug your audio source (with volume control), your speakers, the mains cable, switch on the mains, and forget your amplifier. The automatic on/off function detects the presence of sound at the input and automatically powers on the amplifier. After 10 minutes without sound at the input, the amplifier sets itself in standby, allowing an ultra-low power consumption when not in use.
If you are equipped with electronics featuring a trigger function, a 12V trigger input is also available.
Fully protected
A full set of fault diagnostics allows to protect the amplifier and your speakers against abnormalities.
Designed and proudly built in Luxembourg
